march seemed to go by so quick.
the big blackboard wall really added a lot of life and color and conversation to our kitchen/dinning area.
i'm one to encourage and fully embrace artistic expression, but not sad at all to report that as the month went on, the man/boys seemed to resist adding their little pee-pee art to the wall.
so here's a peek at our life (be it a bit random) in the month of march.
what's the weather today?
what's for dinner?
in finland the calender week starts with monday, not sunday.
the weeks are also numbered and referenced by a week number.
do other parts of the world do this? i'm curious now.
anyway it's odd to me and complicated.
i cannot get used to it at a glance and honestly, not trying very hard to get it either. sorry.
on this friday evening, i made mr. c and i some crazy good cabbage/potato/carrot/onion latke (like potato pancakes but with other veg) and frittata for dinner.
i'm big on making intentional left overs as you will see. left overs pop up here and there.
most saturday mornings you can find me standing at the oven coffee in hand, waiting on cinnamon rolls in my green polka dot nightgown, so i guess that is me .
what's up with the one big boob, i do not know. the camera added 5 lbs to my lefty.
glad i didn't have my behind up there.
monday 'salad'. it was a big beautiful salad served with fresh rosemary poppy seed focaccia i adapted from home cooking with sonya. she has great recipes that have become part of our rotating menu.
the stars and moon might seem just cute, but what you might not know is, we don't see twinkling stars and the moon all year. you appreciate them a lot when you don't have them all the time.
we have named this bird 'the weather bird'. he is wearing curly toed slippers. he makes me laugh. something about his stink eye and the foot position makes me think he'd be kinda sarcastic if he could talk. just me? or can you see it too?
sweet lord almighty it's been a long winter!!! hahahaha
the weather bird forecast is in celsius not fahrenheit. i'm at least embracing this C over F business. can i get a few points for that?
we've been out walking/hiking nearly every day, big hard 8-10k's to the frozen sea.
we slopped through some nasty heavy slushy snow/rain wind especially early-mid in the month.
back home family basked in 80f weather in march, in michigan that is craziness.
but here we were mighty pleased when we hit +4.
blue numbers are below 0. pink above.
don't want to put any more blue numbers on the board for the rest of the year.
sick of blue numbers and sick of snow.
leaving me more room on the counter to make more cookies.
i keep the 3 cookie jars well stocked with homemade cookies when the guys are with us.
when they depart there isn't a crumb left behind.
we enjoyed some apple pie on our monday night dessert after a long walk getting caught in a hard down pour, then pelted with freezing rain and snow.
we came home drenched and worn out.
tradition for the guys... cinnamon rolls, fly fishing shows and coffee.
boy #2 & #3 have their coffee (way more milk and sugar than coffee) and pastry with their dad.
it's a special bonding time for them. it doesn't matter if they watch the same fishing show 100 times. they are glued to it.
mr c tells them all the time...
marry the girl that keeps the coffee fresh and makes you homemade cinnamon rolls :)
reaching the end of the month weather bird says it's warming up.
real heat wave we got going here. sarcasm.
still have 1-2 ft of snow. but it is receding slowly.

that pretty much wraps march up for now.
looking forward to april!
hope the sunshine is shinning down on you where ever you are today!

So much fun! I love your play by play of the month and your doodles are so cute. And heck, what guy wouldn't snag the girl who bakes every weekend? xo
ReplyDeletethanks lisa! it's really been a fun project :)and the baking is a labor or love. i'm rewarded with lots of hugs so it's a win-win situation :)
DeleteGorgeous board, love the weather bird!! Really beautiful! xx
ReplyDeleteawwwe thanks a bunch! xo
DeleteThe weeks are the same in Sweden. Everyone refers to the week number and it always begins on Monday. The number of the weeks is really hard for me to get used to! Hmm...perhaps an interesting blog topic. ;)
ReplyDeletegood idea chelsey! yes, please blog about it! i'm glad to know it's not just me who can't get my head around this :)
DeleteOh my gosh I just lvoe that you used fresh rosemary and poppyseeds in yours!!! I am so doing that aswell :)
ReplyDeleteI now want a chalkboard in my kitchen area..not that it could really fit because Dutch kitchens are so weenie it makes me cry.
The sun has been out over here and I have been enjoying every single second of it that I can. Lets hope summer gets here soon :)
i made the focaccia again last night with the spicy italian mix with the crushed red pepper. i'm looking forward to making cheese sandwiches out of it. wish i had a panini maker now. lol.
Deletei think for the most part the apartment kitchens can be quite small here also. our's was originally a small narrow galley style kitchen. thankfully it was opened up during renovation!
my last apartment kitchen was so small you could hardly turn around in it. so i can appreciate your sadness :(
same here on the sunshine! and yes lets hope for a early summer!
Love your board and I can see my boy aka hubby leaving hidden pee pee art too! Boys! Your weather bird does of a flair of attitude as he should!! Love it I wish i had a spot for such a board! Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteboys indeed! lol! thanks kathy have a wonderful day too!
DeleteBeautiful chalk drawings and beautiful ways to spend the month of March :), lovely post! Miriam@Meatless Meals For Meat Eaters
ReplyDeleteawwe thanks miriam :)
DeleteLOVING your chalkboard, what a great idea. Love all the details and little peaks into your days. Hmmm, wondering where I can put one in my house. I am especially liking the sound of those cinnamon rolls too. Here's hoping you get some sunshine soon. :)
ReplyDeletethanks becs :) my problem is not painting the whole kitchen in blackboard paint. i'm afraid there would be more doodles and less baking though. xo
DeleteYou artist, you! I'm a doodler too :) We've gotten used to the celcius thing too - in fact, we try to guess the celcius temp in the morning to viscerally feel those celcius numbers. I think our UK calendar starts with Monday too - but I confess to using my Sunday starting iCalendar. Gosh, your husband never would have married me - homemade cinnamon rolls?! I'd marry you too :)
ReplyDeletedoodling is just such fun isn't it!
Deletei have to admit that i can convert + temps much easier than below zero. this might have something to do with being in denial. lol!
too funny on the cinnamon rolls! :)
hope you are getting all settled in your new home! xo
This post is wicked. So I am a little chalk board crazy as well. I have all my kitchen cabinets painted black chalk board, and my fridge! The handle has been an issue though, so I am looking for some tennis racket tape to cover the handles. And, this very weekend, I painted my bathroom cabinet chalk board as well. It is so addicting. and too fun. Your tales and chalk board art are awesome! And cinnamon rolls...I so want to come over! Lucky hubs you have!!!
ReplyDeletethanks daniele! seriously love that you did that to your kitchen!!!! i hope you post pics of your kitchen... or maybe you already have. share the link please!
Deletei would love to paint our fridge also and thought about it, but our other appliances are white and in good/decent shape as are our cupboards :( if our cupboards were not wonderful i'd be all over about it!
hmmm could you just spray out the handle with flat black?
it is all super fun. i am currently working on the april/spring board.
