Committing to a Healthier Life
Committing to a Healthier Life
Vitamins:
I have committed to start taking my vitamins again!
![]() |
| I wish my vitamins were pretty like these! |
We really need added vitamin D because the days are really short in the winter here.
I packed a couple boxes of daily 'Vitamins To Go' from Sundown.
I apparently was saving them for a special occasion or something!
I just haven't been in the habit of taking them here for some reason.

Walk:
I committed to at least 3 days a week of power walking.
My sweet Mr. C and I got out and we did our walking/hiking 3-5 times a week all month even in the...
wettest
nastiest
nastiest
slushiest
windiest
craziest

WEATHER
| fashion Hesinki style...layers and layers.. yoga pants, long underwear, dude snow boots, cotton socks and wool socks |
There were days I didn't want to go walk.
There were days he didn't want to walk.
There were days we did it anyway....
And there were days we didn't.
There is a hill I thought would be the end of me!
I hate that hill.
I really do.
| The camera can never really capture how steep it is. On the edges you can see the cross country trails made for the skiers. When they come down this hill they are flying. When they go up it... they are puffing... like me! |
I really do.
If you can break into a sweat with a wind chill of -26c you are working it...
and I have been!
Yoga:
I committed to get on that yoga mat...
and I have done it!!!
My neck and back are feeling better and I'm slowly getting back my range of movement.

I could do a back bend when I was 43...
can you believe that!
can you believe that!
I will do it again at 45... I turned 45 in December!!!
Food:
The big commitment.
Time to get real...
Being mindful of what I am eating.
When I'm eating it.
The portion size I'm eating.
How I'm feeling when I'm eating it.
And deciding when I feel full before I'm full...
and then stopping!

How I'm feeling when I'm eating it.
And deciding when I feel full before I'm full...
and then stopping!
For goodness sake woman put down the fork!
I am a vegetarian, 16 years now.
For me:
No, to meat, fish, foul.
Yes, to dairy, cheese and eggs.
I eat too much cheese.
I over do salt.
I committed to oatmeal 2 times a week for dinner when I started this.
In reality we have averaged 5 times a week all month!!!
In reality we have averaged 5 times a week all month!!!
We both think oatmeal is...
yummy
healthy
comfort
food
So oatmeal for dinner wasn't a hard commitment to keep after a cold winter evening walk.
Lunch is our big meal of the day in our home.
Mr. C walks home for lunch everyday.
I just love that we have our meals together.
(I will seriously gush and carry on about this in another blog)

I think we get some extra points for a few good things we do for ourselves...
We do not eat fast food.
We rarely ever eat out.

We rarely ever eat out.
Bread:
I make all our bread, beautiful bread.
I make it by hand even though we have a bread maker.
I like it better made by hand.
I think making it by hand adds love to it.
I think making it by hand adds love to it.
We do not have store bought bread in our house never ever never!
Fresh made with love bread ...
well what can I say, it's easy to eat a lot of it because it's soooo very good.

Hi, my name is Tracie. I eat too much bread.
It's true, I have said it out loud.
I committed to cutting down on my bread eating and added even more whole grains to the breads I made.
.
Sugar:
I have committed to address my sugar addiction
and get it under control.
I have committed to address my sugar addiction
and get it under control.
I battle with sugar like most people do.
On our weekends with the sons (2 times a month) I treat them to made-with-love cookies
and
Saturday night banana splits.
I could tell you I never have a cookie.
I could tell you I don't have banana splits.
I do though.

I've been working on portion control and eating slower.
I know deprivation leads to craving and then over indulging.
That's not nice.
I know once I retrain my taste buds I can get this sugar thing under control again.
I have went years without eating it or craving it.

I can do it again.
Water:
I've committed to increase my water intake by 1 EXTRA glass per day.
I do NOT drink soda I gave that up years ago. I never miss it. Honestly.
Weight:
I've committed to weighing myself every morning...
even when I don't want to look.
even when I don't want to look.
Weighing myself everyday keeps me in real time and helps me be accountable.
I go up or down 1-2 pounds everyday.
The days I'm on the down swing makes me happier than the up days.
That's truthful!
This isn't so much about weight and numbers.
I wasn't feeling good.
I was really feeling
old
stiff
uncomfortable
unmotivated
depressed
In numbers.
I have an honest 10 pounds that I would like to drop.
It's not a lot of weight (but it's enough to motivate me!)

I have a pair of jeans I would like to feel comfortable in again.
I will need to take off 5 lbs to sit down and feel comfortable in them.
8 lbs to make them reallllllly comfortable
10 lbs to be really sasssssssy with myself and call those jeans...
'my fat pants'!

This is about me taking good care of me again and feeling good.
And at the beginning of February I sure wasn't feeling very good.
It has now been 29 days, I'm starting to feel better.
